A method for treatment of aquaculture farms for cultivation of shells such as blue mussels on collectors suspended above the seabed, for removal of starfish, where the collector with shells and starfish is exposed to an aqueous solution and/or slurry of an alkaline-earth oxide and/or hydroxide, is described.
