Silicon dioxide mixed powder (I), which is produced by flame hydrolysis and contains tantalum oxide (Ta2O5) and/or niobium oxide (Nb2O5) as component(s) of the mixed oxide, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) methods of preparing (I); (2) method of preparing (I) with 0.01-20 wt.% mixed oxide component; (3) dispersions prepared using 0.1-70 wt.% of (I); (4) green moldings or glass produced from (I); (5) coatings containing (I).
