STANDING WAVE DESIGN OF SINGLE AND TANDEM SIMULATED MOVING BEDS FOR RESOLVING MULTICOMPONENT MIXTURES

Separations of one or more components from multi-component fluid mixtures using simulated moving bed technology, and methods of designing such simulated moving beds (SMBs), are provided. The SMBsdesigned according to this invention can be used to separate slow and fast moving fractions in multicomponent mixtures, or to separate an intermediate affinity component from the mixture. The invention is applicable to systems exhibiting linear isotherms, and is especially applicable to such systems when separations are inhibited by mass transfer resistances.
