The invention relates to a document recognition system of the type used for the identification of documents comprising a security mark which consists of a substance that is excited when light is emitted from the corresponding light source. The inventive system comprises a light source consisting of a modulated-frequency diode laser (1) and at least two assemblies (3) which are used to detect the light emitted, by means of reflection or transmission, by the excitable substance in relation to the security mark on the document to be identified. Each of said detector assemblies (3) is associated with an electronic processing system comprising a filter (7) and an amplifier (8) which are in turn connected to a single microprocessor.
