Locking catch (4) rotates in axis parallel to front and edge of in fed card and can be rotated back and forwards against reset force to feed in card or remove card. Card front edge (2a) contacts locking catch first bearing surface (11) when card is pushed into card reader. Second bearing surface (12) is contacted by rear edge (2b) of card when card is removed. Structure has locking lever (7) with rotary seating surface (13) which lies at locking lever (7) when lever is in locking position. Locking lever lies on contact surface (14) when lever is in release position. Locking catch (4) is positioned to rotate about axis parallel to front and rear edge of in-fed card. Card front edge (2a) contacts locking catch first bearing surface (11) when card is pushed into card reader. Second bearing surface (12) is contacted by rear edge (2b) of card when card is removed. Catch (4) is rotated upwards, against reset force (6), in in-feed direction out of card path when card is fed in. When card is removed, catch is rotated backwards opposite in-feed direction. Locking lever (7) tilts about axis at right angle to card path. It blocks locking catch against swinging back until end of data transfer. Card can be removed in emergency e.g. power failure by applying greater force which presses catch (4) anti-clockwise about rotary axle (5) against slanted front edge of locking lever which presses slanted rotary seating surface (13) into release position
