The antimicrobial preparation is for local use on the skin and mucous membrane and comprises a combination of lysozyme and immunoglobulins. Lysozyme can decompose Gram positive bacteria by breaking down the peptidoglycane of the bacteria cell wall. The Gram negative bacteria peptidoglycane is protected against the action of lysozyme by a lipopolysaccharide layer. When the immunoglobulins bind to the Gram negative bacteria cell wall, there is such an alteration of the surface lipopolysaccharide layer that lysozyme can break down the underlying peptidoglycane layer, with bacteriolysis as a result.
