Producing binder-free insulating materials, comprising: (a) mechanically or thermomechanically pulping a lignocellulosic material; (b) incubating the pulp in a mixed enzyme suspension; (c) adding a cationic substance to precipitate fines; (d) dewatering the suspension; and (e) drying the product, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an insulating material produced the method; and (2) a binder-free fibrous insulating board with a density of 50-400 kg/m3.
