It is intended to provide a method of using an acidic aqueous solution, which can be economically and conveniently employed for sterilization or disinfection in small-scaled facilities such as homes and private hospitals, and a method of using the same. An aqueous solution having an effective chlorine concentration of from 20 to 1000 ppm and a pH value of from 5 to 8 is preserved in a container in a sealed state. An activator capable of promoting the activation of the chlorine component in the aqueous solution before using is added. The resultant aqueous solution is diluted with water at a definite temperature and then used. Also, a definite amount of an aqueous solution having an effective chlorine concentration of from 20 to 1000 ppm and a pH value of form 5 to 8, which is preserved in a container in a sealed state, and an activator capable of promoting the activation of the chlorine component in the aqueous solution, which is packed in a required amount in a container and added to the definite amount of the aqueous solution before using, are provided.
