The invention relates to a surgical instrument for grinding the cotyloid cavity, comprising an instrument head (3) and a drive shaft (5). In order to offer an easier access during a minimally invasive operation, the drive shaft (5) including an optionally provided shaft (4) is located at an angle with regard to the rotation axis (12) of the instrument head (3). In order to facilitate the alignment of the instrument head (3) and the exertion of the advancing force, a handle can be provided that is located in the direction of the rotation axis (12) of the instrument head (3) but is connected to the instrument head (3) or to the shaft (4) at a location outside of this axis (12).
