A method and apparatus for separating particles different in size, structure, or function. In the method, particles different in size, structure, and function are guided into an adsorbing fluid atmosphere. An adsorbing molecule species is critically adsorbed on a specific portion of each particle, and the particles are separated by size, structure, or function by using one or a combination of the mass, the particle size, the motion resistance in a fluid, the function of adsorptivity on a third body all varied because of the critical adsorption.
