The invention relates to a device and a method for fixing a character generator (10) in a printer or copier, according to which a character generator (10) is arranged at a distance from the surface of a photoconductor (12) and is held by at least one adjustment device (26, 28) comprising a first section (38), a second section (40) and a connecting section (42) located thereinbetween. The first section (38) is fixed in relation to the surface of the photoconductor (12); the second section (40) is fixed to the character generator (10) and can be moved in relation to the first section (38); and the connecting section (42) elastically connects the first and second sections. An adjustment means displaces the second section (40) in relation to the first section (38), moving the longitudinal axle (18) of the character generator in a plane (16) which is perpendicular to the surface of the photoconductor (12). Furthermore, means for the remote control of the adjustment means are provided.
