Simulation system for simulation of functions in a modular printing machine using a printer software model. Said printing machine comprises reel changer, printing tower, turning device, folding machine, etc. The model indicates the modules present in a machine and the progression of material lengths through the machine. A display image is output to a monitor so that an operator can modify the model by selecting a symbol and allocating it to field with an input tool. The output model display comprises a number of fields corresponding to the modules in the printing machine. Predefined symbols are displayed in the fields, indicating the type of module and its operational mode.
