Inhibiting replication of viruses (A) that have a 3'-untranslated region (UTR) comprises altering a structure within the 3'-UTR by using a short, double-stranded RNA (B) or an antisense oligonucleotide (AON) where one strand (S1) of (B) or AON is partially or completely complementary to the 3'-UTR. An Independent claim is also included for dsRNA that includes a strand (S1) partially or completely complementary to the 3'-UTR of a viral genome.
