A method and apparatus for automatically coating granular material fed from a supply (6) thereof to a weighing station (20) comprising a supply duct (8a) with an auger therein driven by a motor (9). Liquid additive is fed by a pump (13) from a supply (11) thereof via duct (12) to spray nozzles (19a) positioned around outlet (10) which coat the feed as it falls under gravity into bucket (21). Control means (30) ensure that the coating additive is only sprayed onto granular material leaving outlet (10). Compressed air may be added to the coating applied by the spray nozzles (19a).
