The invention relates to a novel form of the PHGPx protein, the sperm nuclei glutathione peroxidase (snGPx), to sections thereof, which play a part in the spermatogenesis of mammals and to nucleic acids that code for the same. The invention also relates to vectors containing said nucleic acids and to host cells that are transformed by the vectors. The invention further relates to antibodies that are specific to the aforementioned proteins and peptides and to the use of said proteins and peptides in the diagnosis or treatment of male infertility.
