PURPOSE: A video feature extractor of a digital TV is provided to support various reproducing modes of a video recorder of a digital TV receiver, efficiently control buffers and effectively transmit index data. CONSTITUTION: A video bit stream interface(70) decodes a video elementary stream from a packetized elementary stream packet inputted through system decoding and extracts a picture index. A video bit buffer(80) temporarily stores the elementary stream data from the video bit stream interface. A picture index controller(120) temporarily stores the picture index according to an effective signal and outputs the picture index to a host. A variable length decoder(90) decodes the elementary stream data stored in the video bit buffer. A video histogram generator(100) calculates histogram data among data decoded by the variable length decoder to produce various trick plays. A host CPU(140) controls the operation of the entire system and calculates index data to store the data in an HDD(150).
