PURPOSE: A method for preventing the malfunction of a side airbag is provided to prevent the malfunction of the side airbag caused by door slam by spreading the side airbag only when a door is locked. CONSTITUTION: A method for preventing the malfunction of a side airbag comprises the steps of: determining whether a signal for spreading the side airbag is generated when deceleration/acceleration detected from the side of a vehicle is over predetermined side clash velocity(S101,S103); determining whether a door is locked if the signal is generated(S105); and spreading the side airbag if the door is locked(S110).
