PURPOSE: A detecting method of travel direction of a vehicle is provided to improve the travel stability by prohibiting control of a brake system and an engine in backward movement with detecting travel direction of the vehicle according to lateral acceleration and the yaw rate. CONSTITUTION: A control unit detects speed of a vehicle from a vehicle speed sensor, and compares the detected speed with the predetermined value(S100,S110). The control unit detects lateral acceleration and the yaw rate(S120), and low-pass filters the detected values through a signal processing unit(S130). The filtered output signal is compared with the reference signal, and the direction of the vehicle is decided according to the value of the output signal(S140,S150). The control unit decides backward movement at the negative output signal, and forbids control of a brake and an engine(S160,S170). The control unit decides forward movement at the positive output signal, and permits control of the brake and the engine(S180,S190). Travel stability is improved by forbidding the control of the brake and the engine in backward movement with deciding the travel direction corresponding to lateral acceleration and the yaw rate. |
