<p>A high-molecular linear polyester with hydroxy and epoxy functions is prepared by reacting a resinous diepoxy component and a dicarboxylic acid component. The dicarboxylic acid is mainly aromatic and is of the type which forms linear polyesters with ethylene glycol. The reaction between the diepoxy resin and the acid is carried out in the presence of a basic catalyst, and in an organic solvent, at a concentration of solid resin of not 50 weight.%. The acid number of the resin is 20 and the ratio of diepoxy component : dibasic acid is 3 : 2 - 6 : 5. The preparation is a simple 1 - or 2 - step process. The resins have improved heat stability. They give coatings with outstanding gloss, good resistance to solvents and good flow properties.</p> |
