The present invention relates to a method for topology discovery in a Resilient Packet Ring. This Resilient Packet Ring comprises a plurality of network nodes which are coupled in a ring topology. Each of the nodes exchange information on the topology of said resilient packet Ring (RPR) and additionally holding said information. The exchanging and holding of this information additionally includes information on a backup node for at least one of said nodes (N1-N8).
