METHOD OF MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method which makes it possible to obtain an optical fiber preform of a uniform magnification with a lesser deviation from a set value from a porous preform obtained by depositing glass particulates on the circumference of a glass rod even if there is a fluctuation of a longitudinal direction in the external diameter and refractive index distribution of the glass rod in a method of manufacturing the optical fiber preform by a multiburner multilayer deposition method.

SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical fiber preform comprises determining the distribution of the design magnification in the longitudinal direction of the glass rod in the multiburner multilayer deposition method and making the porous preform by regulating the amount of the glass particulates synthesized by respective burners in accordance with the distribution of the design magnification in the longitudinal direction of the glass rod, then making the porous preform transparent.
