PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device having high yarn gripping force even in winding a yarn of small gross fineness or of small single fineness and maintaining yarn gripping force for a long time, smoothing continuous change-over and maintaining a high percentage of success in change-over. SOLUTION: A yarn gripping mechanism comprises a yarn holding member and a circular body, the outer periphery face of the former and the inner periphery face of the latter each having a surface roughness of 0.2a or less, as an indicated center-line average roughness Ra.
