PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic having a high corrosion resistance, which exhibits a high resistance to steam corrosion caused by high temperature steam at a high temperature range of≥1,000°C and has a long service life. SOLUTION: In a corrosion resistant ceramic whose base body is mainly formed from at least one kind of silicon nitride, silicon carbide and sialon and which has a surface layer provided on its surface, the surface layer comprises zirconium oxide stabilized with an element of group IIIa of the Periodic Table, contains Al and Si in an amount of≤1% in total, and has a thickness of 5 to 200μm and a porosity of 5 to 30%.
