PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balance rope device for an elevator, easily suppressing the lowering of a balancing wheel due to the secular elongation of a balance rope. SOLUTION: The balance rope 6 is thrust at a position upper than the balancing wheel 8 by the thrust of a thrusting means 12. When the balancing wheel 8 is lowered due to the secular elongation of the balance rope 6 beyond a predetermined position from a bottom face 10 of an elevator shaft 1, a supporting frame 11 is supported by an elastic support 16. At this time, the balance rope 6 having reduced tension is thrust by a thrusting wheel 14 of the thrusting means 12 to give bending to a suspended wire and prevent the deviation due to looseness. Thus, the excess lowering of the balancing wheel 8 due to the secular elongation of the balance rope 6 is prevented, the frequency of heading the balance rope 6 as countermeasures for the excess lowering of the balancing wheel 8 is reduced and the balancing wheel 8 is held at the predetermined position with less work, resulting in saving maintenance cost.
