PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a large stroke volume for impact absorption in an impact absorbing type steering device. SOLUTION: The impact absorbing type steering device 1 has an intermediate shaft 9 for transmitting revolution from a steering wheel 2 between a steering shaft 3 and a steering mechanism 7. The intermediate shaft 9 has a pair of shafts 21, 22 disposed coaxially away from each other and a sleeve 23 for connecting the pair of shafts 21, 22 so as to rotate integrally and slide axially. Inclined planes 33, 43 which are inclined oppositely to each other are formed at ends 30, 40 of both of the shafts 21, 22, respectively. Tip ends 36, 46 of the inclined planes 33, 43 abut on each other at the time of collision to induce the sleeve 23 to bend. As a result. The bending behavior becomes stable, which allows the bending load to be easily adjusted to a predetermined one. The inclinations of the inclined planes may be reversed, respectively.
