PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which a reference position, e.g. recording start position, of a carriage can be detected accurately at the time of scanning while reducing the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: Position of a carriage 1 can be detected accurately when a protrusion 2 formed integrally with the carriage by injection molding intercepts light projected from a projected/received light sensor 3. When the carriage body is molded of a resin not intercepting the light, only the protrusion 2 is coated with a light intercepting paint following to injection molding. Alternatively, the protrusion 2 may be insertion molded of stainless steel integrally with the carriage body such that a part of the stainless steel is included. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
