PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc welding apparatus and a method of controlling the apparatus with which an excellent welding quality is available by varying a welding power in real time in accordance with welding conditions. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a robot mechanism, a welding means which has a welding torch at an articulated portion of the robot mechanism, and a controlling means which sets a welding profile in accordance with the welding conditions and welding path, and controls the robot mechanism and the welding means in real time in accordance with the welding profile. The method includes a step S100 in which the welding condition for a welding parent material is set, a step S200 in which the welding path of the welding parent material is set, a step S300 in which the welding profile and a change factor are set in accordance with the welding conditions and the welding path, and a step S400 in which a welding is performed in accordance with the welding profile.
