<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the diaphanoscopic observation without reflection of a lighting source on a cornea when an diaphanoscopic image is observed. <P>SOLUTION: An image of an examined eye E' is displayed on a CRT monitor 29. When a measuring light beam is irradiated from a measuring light source on the eyeground of the examined eye, the inside of the pupil Pt is illuminated by the reflection light on the eyeground and clearly observed if the eye is normal. However, if there is turbidity caused by the cataract, etc., the turbid part is observed as a dark shadow. At the time, if an examined eye examination part is located at the same position as the measuring position, an intensive reflection image M of the measuring light beam appears at the position where the measuring light beam is projected because of the reflection on the cornea, and the reflection image M becomes an obstacle in the observation.
