PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce weight of a car frame for an elevator having a structure of suspending a car with a main rope. SOLUTION: A supporting frame 43 is turnably mounted on a lower frame 41 with a hinge 42. A spring 45 is arranged between the supporting frame 43 and a main supporting frame 40. The main rope 11 is connected to the supporting frame 43 passing through the main supporting frame 40 for the compression of the spring 45 to push the supporting frame 43 against the lower face of the main supporting frame 40. The looseness of the main rope 11 causes the supporting frame 43 to be rotated counterclockwise around the hinge 42 by the dead weight of the spring 45 and the supporting frame 43 and a switch 4 and an emergency stop device 53 to be operated to stop the elevator.
