PURPOSE: A safety device for a battery and a secondary battery containing the safety device are provided, to prevent the explosion of a battery due to the increase of internal pressure by intercepting current in the case of overdischarging and abnormally high temperature. CONSTITUTION: The safety device comprises a case(51) having a space part(51a) inside; an electrode support part(53) which is supported by the deformation part(52) constituting the closed curve in the one side face of the case, and can be moved to the inside of the space part by being bent by the external pressure; and a lead line(34) of a battery whose both ends are supported by the electrode support and the case and which is sheared when the electrode support is moved. Optionally the safety device comprises further an interception means which is deformed by the overcurrent or the temperature and is placed in the internal wall of the space part of the case corresponding to the electrode support and the deformation part. Preferably the interception means is made of bimetal, shape memory alloy, shrinkage plastic or shrinkage tube.
