SHIELD MEMBER AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light weight shield member which has superior shock resistant characteristics, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: A ring shape shield member 1 which has a piercing hole 3 into which a magnetic head core 2 is inserted, is formed by pressing composite materials consisting of thermoplastic resin and magnetic powder. Propylene- styrene copolymer (PPS) or crystal polymer (LCP) is used as thermoplastic resin and ferrite powder or Permalloy powder is used as magnetic powder. A light weight and superiorly shock resistant magnetic head device can be realized using the shield member 1 of this invention because the shield member 1 is formed by pressing composite materials consisting of thermoplastic resin and magnetic power.
