摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material with high capacity and high cycle characteristics used for a negative active material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, and to increase capacity of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using this material. <P>SOLUTION: This negative active material contains a single particle comprising a region A represented by composition formula SiO<SB>x</SB>C<SB>y</SB>, (in the formula, each of x and y is the number in a range of 0.2&le;x&le;3, 1&le;y&le;5), and a region B comprising a carbonaceous material, and the size of the region A is 10 nm to 1 &mu;m. The negative active material is manufactured in a process mixing a compound containing Si atoms and a polymerization reaction or polycondensation reaction, and a process pyrolytically decomposing the obtained solid product. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
