<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor element having less dislocation from a substrate to another layer, being small, and enabling easy wiring work. <P>SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor element is equipped with a substrate 2 composed of single-crystal Si, a matching layer 3 provided on the substrate 2 and composed of single-crystal Al, and a contact layer 4 provided on the layer 3 and composed of a group III nitride compound. This element is also equipped with a light emitting layer 5 provided above or on the contact layer 4.
