PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reading a draft at a higher speed with high image quality by excluding a signal error at sheet through reading. SOLUTION: In a black-and-white/color automatic judgment copy mode, an original is main-scanned in black-and-white and stored in a page memory during sheet through reading, and is simultaneously pre-scanned in color. Black- and-white image data stored in the page memory are printed for a black-and- white original, and a color original is main-scanned in color by flat bed reading and a color printing is performed.
