<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To input characters or symbols following an ensured input data area by easily compressing the data quantity of an already inputted text into a state that a full size and a half size or the like are unified when data capacity available for the input is limited. <P>SOLUTION: In communication equipment such as a portable telephone, when inputting mail whose input data capacity is limited, characters or symbols are inputted up to a data capacity close to the limited input data capacity, and the symbols, characters, and character strings in a text being the targets of conversion are converted into symbols, characters, and character strings set corresponding to each of them so that the data capacity can be compressed. For example, no line feeding is operated in a line feeding position, the full size characters are converted into half size characters, and full size HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) are converted into homonym half size KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary). Also, the character strings whose conversion is established by KANA/Chinese character conversion are converted into character stings, symbols, and external characters having equivalent meanings but a smaller number of characters by using a character conversion table. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
