PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an FED driving method. SOLUTION: In this method, an electron beam switch is switched to increase a resolution by a voltage control different from a publicly known FED. A positive voltage applied to the anode of the FED is increased, the emitter of the FED is grounded, and a negative voltage is applied to the gate of the FED. When the FED is driven, the anode extracts electron beam from the cathode, and the negative voltage applied to the gate controls the electron beam switch. Thus, since the electron beam is not affected by the attracting force of the gate in lateral direction, a high resolution can be provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
