PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability at the time of using a representative image at the time of executing various moving image data processing by providing information associated with the preparation of the representative image as the attributes of the representative image. SOLUTION: At the time of managing moving images recorded on a recording medium by making one or more representative images correspond to those moving images, a thumb nail corresponding to an arbitrary block in the moving images is generated and recorded based on an image selected according to a desired selection reference from the moving images in the block (S114). The thumb nail is made correspond to the moving image, and stored so as to be made correspond to block information indicating the block corresponding to the thumb nail, location information indicating the location of the base image of the thumb nail, and Type ID indicating the selection reference of the base image (S107-S114).
