<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a character image to an easy-to-read size by securely separating a video area and a character area even when a television signal including the character image and a picture is inputted. <P>SOLUTION: A DSP 2 enlarges or reduces digital image data from an AD converter 1 with a magnification matching video display and a DSP 3 performs enlargement/reduction processing for the character area specified with a position select switch 8 with a magnification matching character display.
