PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a battery from being overcharged or an excessively high voltage from being impressed to an inverter.

SOLUTION: This device comprises a motor-driven machine driven based on a current supplied from a battery; a transmission 41 that varies speed at a prescribed speed-varying ratio; a charging state detecting part that detects an electrical variable representing the state of charge of the battery; a failure determining means 91 that determines the electrical variable larger than a threshold to be a failure; and charge controlling means 92 that slows down the rotation speed of the motor-driven machine to reduce the electrical variable when the failure is determined. The failure is determined when slightly weakened field control is weakened and the electric variable representing the state of charge of the battery is larger than the threshold. Consequently, the rotational speed of the motor-driven machine is reduced so that the supply of an overcurrent to the battery can be prevented.
