PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of precisely and accurately arrange a servo track on a medium. SOLUTION: A technology is provided which forms a mark on a data storage medium and responds to external disturbances in a marking process. According to an embodiment, a system is provided which ablates a physical mark on the data storage medium by using a laser for emitting beams. The system includes a sensor such as an optical sensor constituted to detect the position of the data storage medium and to generate a position signal as a positional function of the data storage medium. An optical device controlled by an actuator directs a beam from the laser to an ablation part on the data storage medium as a function of a position signal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
