PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present the meaning of added special characters to a user by displaying a guide showing the meaning of the added special characters on a screen together with an electronic program table. SOLUTION: A multiplex data separating circuit 15 separates SI information from a received television signal. A control circuit 16 extracts the program information from the SI information and outputs the program information and guide information on the added special characters as an OSD data signal to an OSD circuit 19 (ST101). The OSD circuit 19 generates the electronic program table with the added special character guide on the basis of the OSD data signal, and switches or superposes and outputs a video signal obtained from an MPEG video reproducing circuit 17 and the electronic program table one over the other to a TV 20 (ST102).
