PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for positioning the plates of a flat display device capable of easily and accurately opposing a large number of pixel display part on a face plate side and a large number of electron emission elements on a rear plate side in a short time, and a flat display device. SOLUTION: A metal back 14 covering the fluorescent substance layer 13 for four pixels positioned at four corners among a plurality of fluorescent substance layers 13 on a fluorescent substance screen 11 formed on the inner surface of the face plate 4 is partially removed to form a detection pixel 10. Ultraviolet ray is radiated on the fluorescent substance layer 13 for these four detection pixels 10 to excitedly emit light, and the corresponding electron emission elements 15 are photographed by four cameras 23 disposed on the outside of the rear plate 2.
