PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, and a method for manufacturing the same, capable of achieving gas tightness of a sealed part, and improving reliability. SOLUTION: A vacuum enclosure 10 of this image display device is provided with a back face substrate 12 and a front face substrate 11 disposed to face each other, and inside the vacuum enclosure, plural electron emission elements 22 are provided. The front face substrate and the back face substrate are sealed through a sealing layer 33 at peripheral parts, and a diffusion layer including components of the sealing layer is formed on the plate side of the interface between at least one of the front face substrate and the back face substrate and the sealing layer.
