The invention relates to mine protection for armored vehicles against antitank mines. Owing to the limited possibilities associated with the use of monolithic materials and to the differentiated spectrum of action of antitank mines, the aim of the invention is to create a defense mechanism using a novel composite system consisting of light and ballistically effective materials in various thicknesses and arrangements. The mine protection comprises flexible crash elements (backings) with a honeycomb structure (honeycombs: 10a, 10b, ), which are combined with metal plates or with aramide woven material (8a, 8b, ), this woven material having an extremely high tensile strength, and combined with damping materials (2, 4a, 4b) as well as with ceramic materials (12). A front-mounted metal cladding (6b) is provided in the form of a tile mosaic. The aramide woven material (8a, 8b, ) employed can be comprised of a number of layers and/or can be rubber-lined on both sides. The honeycomb structures (10a, 10b, ) are preferably made of paper, aluminum or plastic. The foams can be made of metal. The invention also relates to a bottom-mounted mine protection, particularly provided for relatively lightly armored land vehicles.
