PURPOSE: A method and a device for discriminating an imitation fingerprint are provided to discriminate the imitation fingerprint by using the property difference in the reflection, the permeability, and the attenuation of light between a biometric fingerprint and the imitation fingerprint. CONSTITUTION: The lightening controller(53) controls an infrared LED(Light Emitting Diode)(54) emitting the light to an object(52) contacting to a fingerprint input window(50) while the light is penetrated as following an internal surface adjacent to the surface of the object(52). An object surface image obtaining part(56) obtains a surface image of the object(52) by detecting the light outputted from the object(52) after penetrating the inside of the object(52) through an image sensor(55). An imitation fingerprint discriminating part(58) discriminates between the biometric fingerprint and the imitation fingerprint based on an image analysis result from an image analyzer(57) analyzing the image obtained from the object surface image obtaining part(56).
