An expandable thermosettable composition comprises liquid epoxy resin(s); finely divided thermoplastic polymer powder(s); blowing agent(s); curative(s); and filler(s). Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for stiffening and/or reinforcing of a vehicle body structural component, which comprises: (i) mixing of the binder constituents at temperatures below 110 degreesC; (ii) extrusion of the binder at 60-110 degreesC, preferably 70-90 degrees, optionally on a textile sheet or metal tape; (iii) cooling of the laminated body; (iv) application of the laminated body to the metallic substrate, optionally with heating to the softening range of the laminate; and (v) heating of the substrate to 110-200 degreesC, preferably 130-180 degreesC, to cure the thermoset resin on the substrate. (2) a process for stiffening and/or reinforcing vehicle body structural components, which comprises: (i) mixing of the binder constituents at temperatures below 110 degreesC, preferably below 50 degreesC; (ii) injection molding of the binder at 60-110 degreesC, preferably 70-90 degreesC; (iii) cooling of the molding; (iv) fixing of the molding tot he metallic substrate, or introduction into the hollow space to be stiffened, with optional heating to soften; (v) heating of the substrate to 110-200 degreesC, preferably 130-180 degreesC, to cure the thermoset resin on the substrate.
