The magnetic field is produced by a coil (1) offset from the central axis (13) of the stud (14) or other component to be welded. Its magnetic flux passes through components forming a magnetic circuit to the stud holder (3) and the welding location (15). In the welding region, a rotationally-symmetrical, transverse, uniform magnetic field is generated. An Independent claim is included for corresponding stud welding equipment.
