The device has measurement probe (2) with at least one associated permanent magnet (4) for magnetizing the test object. The distance between the measurement probe and the permanent magnet is variable. The permanent magnet is supported with respect to the measurement probe by adjustment screws (5.1,5.2). The permanent magnet can be hinged away from the measurement probe.
