The invention relates to a device and method for the provision of information relating to consumer products to be provided in an efficient and effective manner to a user. The information which is provided can relate to a wide range of criteria which can be tailored to suit specific user profiles and/or requirements. An electronic device is used which typically includes a display screen and communication means to allow data to be transferred to and from a remote location. In a preferred embodiment the device can be hand held and includes data input means so as to be used in relation to specific identified products at the product location.
