The present invention provides a protein (BCMP 84) isolated from breast cancer cell line membrane preparations, compositions comprising the protein, including vaccines and antibodies which are immunospecific for the protein. The use of an active agent selected from the protein, corresponding nucleic acids, antibodies and the like, including pharmaceutical compositions, in the diagnosis, screening, treatment and prophylaxis of cancers including breast cancer is also provided.
